Thirty-Six Views of Mparntwe Exhibition, April 2026, Araulen Arts Centre, Alice Springs
From just about any position in the township of Mparntwe, you only have to look out to see ranges and hills. The Todd River runs like a backbone (artepe) through the township, orienting us in space and memory. These living topographies are central to the town’s cultural identities They hold and connect us deeply to place, physically, emotionally and spiritually.
This exhibition considers the layered complexity of this place. It explores the relationship between the urban environment and the landscape and reflects on events and histories that continue to shape the way we live in this town. It highlights the tension and toil in land-caring, as well as celebrating the seasonal rhythms.
